One of the best ways to properly identify your pet is with a microchip. We recommend any family pet you would want returned to you get a microchip, not just the dogs. Microchips are, well, micro. They are about the size of a grain of rice and are usually injected into the pet's subcutaneous layer of the skin. A microchip contains a unique number that is assigned to a pet's name, breed profile and owner information. This is considered permanent identification. Once that chip number is linked to your name, phone number and address, it will stay that way unless changed by you. Any facility capable of caring for pet animals has the ability to check for a microchip with a microchip scanner. Once the number is revealed with the scanner, the owner is just a phone call away!
Home Again is the brand of microchip used at T.A.H. We chose Home Again because of the features offered to pet owner's through the Home Again company. It is also one of the few brands that is guaranteed to stay put in the pet's skin and not migrate from the spot where injected.
We can microchip your pet at any time. You do not need an appointment to do so. Most pet's do not even notice a microchip being administered any more that getting a vaccine. Please call us for more details!
Other ways to identify your pets are also important to utilize. Name tags with owner's contact information can be attached to collars. Rabies tag's have the location where the vaccine was given and a phone number. Tags are given to owner's when their pets are vaccinated for rabies and the number assigned is unique to each pet. Additionally, there are collars that can be purchased that have the pet's name and contact information sewn right into them. All of these options are useful, but only if the pet in question is wearing a collar when the unthinkable happens.
