Dr. Garcia asked all of the owners of qualified Golden Retrievers in our clinic to consider enrolling their dogs into the study. By watching each dog over its lifetime, we can attempt to solve a wide range of canine medical problems, such as cancer, diabetes, skin allergies and hip dysplasia. While dogs of all shapes, sizes and breeds will benefit from the study, Golden Retrievers are our focus because, unfortunately, they are diagnosed with cancer more often than many other breeds.
To participate, the Golden Retrievers must be healthy and purebred, have a verifiable three-generation pedigree, be between 6 and 24 months of age and reside in the contiguous United States. At each dog’s annual examination, we’ll take samples to be analyzed, such as blood, urine, hair and nail clippings. Clients will be asked to complete an online questionnaire each year about their dog’s diet, travel and living environment. Their contributions will have a huge effect by providing a wealth of information that can help hundreds of thousands of dogs of all breeds in the future.
Dr. Garcia recently enrolled two patients (Griffin and Zoey) of Temperance Animal Hospital! We are very thankful for their participation and support! If you have an AKC registered Golden Retriever under 2 years of age (or know someone who does), and are interested in participating in this great study, please have them visit the site below for more information (or to get enrolled) or contact T.A.H. at 734.847.6751.
