Dr. Christine Ravary, D.V.M. Dr. Ravary was born and raised in North Toledo. After graduating from Toledo Central Catholic, she attended Bowling Green State University for her undergraduate studies.
Dr. Ravary began as an associate of Temperance Animal Hospital in 1995 after receiving her Doctorate from The Ohio State University. After just six years of avid learning under Dr. Earl Cornprobst, she became his business partner in 2001 and then in 2006 became majority owner of TAH. She strives to present veterinary medicine to clients in an understandable and educational way. Her areas of special interest include Orthopedic Surgery and Ultrasonography.
Her family includes her two sisters, one nephew and her Boston Terrier "Maya." In her time away from T.A.H., she enjoys gardening, vacations and OSU sports. Go Buckeyes!
Dr. Todd Smith, D.V.M. Dr. Smith was born in the hills of West Virginia and grew up in nearby Adrian, Michigan. After graduating from Adrian High School, he attended Michigan State University for both his undergraduate and veterinary programs.
Upon receiving his Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine in 1995, he returned to his home town to practice for four years before joining Temperance Animal Hospital in March of 1999 (and moving to Bedford shortly thereafter). In October of 2010, Dr. Smith joined the ranks of Bedford Small Business Owners by becoming a Partner at Temperance Animal Hospital.
Dr. Smith’s special areas of interest lie in preventive health care and internal medicine. His career passion focuses on helping our patients and the families that love them cope with, fight, and survive cancer with dignity. Since 2001, he and our Oncology Team have treated numerous cancer patients.
Dr. Smith is a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association, the Michigan Veterinary Medical Association, the Human Rights Campaign and the Village Church. He is a past President of the Toledo Veterinary Medical Association.
In his spare time, Dr. Smith can been seen enjoying life: on the tennis or volleyball courts, working out to Yoga or Zumba, celebrating the diversity of the arts, shopping, traveling, or enjoying a good book over a cup of coffee.
Dr. Debra Russett, D.V.M. Dr. Russett has been a member of the Temperance Animal Hospital Team since 1996. Born in San Diego, CA she has lived in numerous locations as an Air Force dependent. As a child, she always had friendly pets - dogs, cats and small pocket pets.
Dr. Russett graduated from Purdue University School of Veterinary Medicine in 1986. She worked in emergency veterinary medicine in Ft. Wayne, IN followed by Flint, MI. T.A.H. invited her to become a full-time veterinarian in 1996 where she became an integral part of our team.
Her areas of special interest at T.A.H. include general medicine and dentistry. While outside of work you can find her enjoying nature or a good book. Her current household includes her loving husband, three sweet cats (Boo Boo, Angel and Grendle) and a spoiled Beagle (Corky).
Dr. Kristina Whitmer, D.V.M. Dr. Whitmer was born and raised in Ann Arbor, Michigan. She attended Michigan State University and completed a Bachelor's of Science in Zoology in 2006 prior to receiving her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine in 2010.
After practicing small animal medicine in northern Indiana for two years, she decided to move back to Michigan and joined Temperance Animal Hospital in May 2012.
Dr. Whitmer's professional interests include Behavioral Medicine, Nutrition and Preventive Medicine. Her goal is to support the human-animal bond both medically and behaviorally so that every pet has the opportunity to lead a long, happy and healthy life!
Dr. Whitmer shares her life with her dogs (Ayla, Emmett, and Quinn). She enjoys participating in canine sports including Agility and Obedience. She is also looking forward to starting to train in Flyball soon! When not at work or spending time with her pets. Dr. Whitmer enjoys sewing, cross-stitching, golf and cooking.
Dr. James Garcia, D.V.M. Dr. Garcia was born in San Antonio, Texas on the Lackland Air Force Base. After moving several times, his family settled in Wellington, Ohio when he was 11-years-old. After graduating from Wellington High School he joined the United States Air Force where he served as a computer programmer for six years.
While serving in the Air Force, Dr. Garcia continued his education by taking night classes, later transferring to The Ohio State University where he completed his undergraduate studies in Biology and received his Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine in May of 2013.
The areas of Veterinary Medicine that Dr. Garcia enjoys the most are surgery, Cardiology and Oncology but also enjoys the varied aspects and challenges faced by being a General Practitioner.
Dr. James and his family have relocated to Temperance and are proud members of the Temperance community. His wife and two children share their home with a Labrador Retriever mix (Jesus) and a Miniature Schnauzer (Zeke) and a English Setter (Birdie). The Garcia family loves going to the zoo, spending time outdoors hiking, camping and exploring wildlife.
Dr. Barbara Watson, D.V.M. (Retired in 2016) Dr. Watson's relationship with Temperance Animal Hospital began when she was just a student, observing and interning at T.A.H. while attending Michigan State University. She started working at T.A.H. as a doctor in 1987 after receiving her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine degree.
She worked full time for many years until she started her family and began teaching. She now works mainly Saturdays and fills in on summer vacation.
Dr. Watson's family includes her husband, two daughters and two Miniature Dachshunds (Cookie and Harry). She also enjoys reading, hiking and bringing in treats for the T.A.H. team.
Dr. Richard Mieczkowski, D.V.M. (Relief Veterinarian) Dr. Mieczkowski was born and raised in the Detroit area. He attended Michigan State University, receiving his Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine in 1976. He has been practicing for 41 years – 25 of which he was a practice owner. After selling his practice, he became a substitute veterinarian for clinics in Southern Michigan. He has been subbing at T.A.H. for more than five years. His professional special interests include Dermatology and Internal Medicine.
Dr. Mieczkowski is happily married to his wife Janet of more than 40 years. They have three children, one grandchild with whom he spends most of his out-of-work time entertaining. He also enjoys the occasional out-of-town trip and golfing as much as his schedule will allow.
